Subnautica: The best survival game to date

Subnautica is one of those hidden gems that every one needs to find.  Everything about this game is amazing, from the second you start the game to gazing at a reefback wile cruising by in your seamoth.

Big props to Unknown Worlds Entertainment for having a story that’s not to overwhelming and having a purpose for what you are doing, unlike other survival games these days.

I really wish I could forget playing this game so I can go back and rediscover everything for the first time again.  I’ve never been so driven in a game to go on and do the next thing, or to hunt for resources to upgrade my Base, Prawn and Cyclops.

If I had to summarize this game in two words: Discovery and Uneasy.  Every where you go there is something new to find from ship debris fields to ancient alien structures.

But the other side is the tense part… Reaper Leviathans!  These massive things keep you on your toes and out of places where they don’t want you to go.  They’re scary but uniquely awesome.

The whole universe of Subnautica has its own breathing world with vasts amounts of flora and fauna that make this game awe-inspiring.  And not to forget the top notch sound and score to the game; it immerses yourself into the environment whether you’re in a friendly shallow reef or in the depths of the lava zone.

I highly recommend this game, it’s worth every penny and every minute you put into this awesome game.

Battalion 1944: A FPS Going Back To Its Roots

Finally a game where its not drowned by perks, how many prestige’s you’ve accomplished or how many weapon skins you can unlock.  Battalion 1944, developed by Bulkhead Interactive has gone back to how first person shooters should be played; purely skill based.

Bulkhead Interactive wanted to create a similar experience to early Metal of Honor and Call of Duty games, where game play is solely skill based and not unbalanced with unlocks.  However, there are unlocks for players including weapon engraving, insignia’s and character customization.   All of witch do not effect the game play.

I’ve been waiting for an FPS like this to come back and perhaps trump today’s Call of Duty (probably wont happen) but I think its a step in a good direction for future First Person Shooters.  Even executive producer of Bulkhead Interactive, Joe Brammer thinks its time to bring back a great WW2 shooter:

“It’s been a decade since we last saw a great WW2 First Person Shooter and I think the genre’s resurgence is long overdue. We’re focusing on community driven development. We want to work with passionate community of players who have a strong connection to the genre like we do.”

There is no release date yet for Battalion 1944 but you can help Bulkhead Interactive on their Kickstarter page.

Fallout 4, What you need to know before November 10th.

fallout-4-logoPossibly the best game announced by Bethesda, and it’s not even out yet!  Fallout 4. Ever since Bethada had their own press conference back at E3 it’s been the most widely talked about and most anticipated game this year.  Here’s some things to expect on November 10th, just in case you’ve been living under a rock these past months.

Fallout 4 is going to take place in a post-apocalyptic Boston and feature a wide variety of new features to the series. Everything from a new combat system in V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) to crafting and customizing your own weapons and armor, to building your own house all of which you have a choice of doing or not.

As in every fallout game there are factions you can choose to help, join or destroy.  The Brotherhood of Steel are going to be a major presence in Boston along with The Commonwealth Minute Men. There are some factions you might want to stay away from like the raiders and the Super Mutants; back from Fallout 3 and looking tougher than ever.

They’ve also added settlements where you can build defenses to defend your village from raider attacks. Upgrade turrets, recruit NPCs to defend your settlement and have Brahmin caravans between multiple settlements for trade. All of which you can choose to do or not.

Bethesda also added a new dialog system.  With this, interaction with other NPCs is more fluid and conversational.  If you’re a pacifist, you can play the entire game without killing anything and talking your way through a conversation that would otherwise end in bullets flying through the air.

Unlike most other games Fallout is an open world, and you get to make choices in the world at your own discretion. Whether it’s good or evil. How ever you plan on playing Fallout and those decisions you make, makes Fallout a one of a kind enjoyable experience that tells the story on how you make it.

What makes Fallout so S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

fallout-4-special If you’re wondering what S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is about in Fallout; It’s your character’s stats in the game.   There are several combinations to fit any play style that you put points into at the start of the game.  Here are what each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat does for you in Fallout.

-Strength- Determines how much equipment you can carry while walking through the wastes. As well as having the strength requirements for certain weapons and how much melee damage you can deal.

-Perception-Knowing what’s around you in your environment. Having a high perception lets you see enemies before they see you. It will also have an effect on your accuracy in V.A.T.S.

-Endurance-Overall physical fitness of your character. Endurance has an effect on your health and action points and determines how long you can sprint for.

-Carisma- Having high Charisma, you can charm and convince other NPCs. You’ll be able to have a chance to persuade others in dialogue and for bartering prices.

-Intelligence- Affects several things including medicine, repair skills and science skills. Having low intelligence allows unique dialogue opinions in game towards other NPCs. It will also determine how many skill points you can get after leveling up.

-Agility- Overall reflexes and fitness of your character. Agility also determines the number of action points in V.A.T.S. and how well your ability is to sneak.

-Luck-Having high luck will give you better chance on critical hits and how often it recharges. When you’re scavenging you have a better chance of finding more caps and/or better loot.

Enjoy creating a character in Fallout 4. Hope this gives you a little more insight on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. statistics. Have fun exploring the wastes.

Why video games are awesome

video-gamesSome people might question why video games exist, and might even say they’re a big waste of time. However that’s far from true.

Video games come in all sorts of shape and sizes. Games entertain us just as many movies entertain others. They tell a deep story that makes us feel something for the characters that we play. Solve problems that challenge a player. Connect with friends and other people from around the world on a common love for a particular game.

Everyone has a reason why they play whether it’s for making the time go by, to getting submerged into a story. Gamers spend countless hours on several games, to accomplish what? It could be a number of things.

Self-worth? Attaining a simple or complex goal? Good triumphing over evil? It varies from gamer to gamer weather they play for an hour a week or ten hours a day. The passion is still there for the game because it’s visually stimulating and the story leaves you wanting more.

If you’re doubting yourself, just pick up a game and get yourself immersed and lost into a world that is not your own.  Pick any from defeating an alien army on a different planet to building and constructing your own city making your own laws and budget.  Video games can have an impact on you that sticks with you throughout your life and has made an impact on the society as we know it today.

This is how it all started,  all first person shooters now days have derived from this very game.  Above and beyond campaign, but the multiplayer aspect really sold on what this game was, and changed FPS as we know it today.

5. Mass Effect Series
Mass Effect

This is a action role-playing third person shooter game; with  unique game play and a unique story.  There isn’t a game quite like this.

4. Halo 4

Breath taking graphics and very good game play and multiplayer.  Continues on a great story already from previous Halo games, and gets a little more emotion out of the game play.

3. Skyrim

Open world game play, lore and something new around every corner.  You can spend hours upon hours in this game and still find new things .

1. Fallout: 3 & New Vegas

New Vegas

Finally number one on the list Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Both incredible games and amazing game play.  Open world and play the game however you see fit.  I couldn’t decide between the two so I chose both.

Those are some of my favorite games from last GEN consoles.  I’m sure I missed a few good ones; let me know if I missed any of them.  Thanks for checking this out.
